In any other magical girl show, "removed" means losing your powers or forgetting your memories. Mahou Shoujo Ikusei Keikaku is not any other show. Episode 2 wastes no time clarifying that "removal" is a permanent, violent death. If you watch this episode for only one reason, watch it to see the tonal whiplash executed perfectly. The cheerful theme song still plays. The chibi reaction faces still appear. But now, every smile is a potential farewell.
