Upon discovering their betrayal, Pabo grants their wish to be together forever—but in a literal and brutal sense. He has them chained together by their wrists, forcing them to remain in constant proximity day and night.
The film's main story is told in a flashback, framed by a young visitor to the wealthy Ni Han's (called Papo or Pa Bo in some sources) logging camp. One night, he is seduced by a beautiful woman who then flees in terror upon hearing a man's haunting screams from the forest. The visitor asks the foreman, Thip, about the screams, who then recounts the tragic tale of Yupadee and Sangmong (called Shang Meng or Som Mong in other sources).
