Set in French-occupied Germany during the early 19th century, the film stars a young Matt Damon as Will Grimm and the late Heath Ledger as Jacob Grimm. Instead of being the serene storytellers of legend, they are depicted as charming con artists who travel from village to village, staging elaborate exorcisms to profit from the superstitious townsfolk. The plot takes a dramatic turn when they are forced by a French general (Jonathan Pryce) to investigate disappearances in a cursed forest, forcing them to confront real magic, witches, trolls, and an evil Mirror Queen (Monica Bellucci) who is using the young women of the village to maintain her immortality.
