The ensemble cast of Prisoners is one of its greatest strengths, with each actor delivering a performance that adds weight to the film’s moral complexity.

When six-year-old Anna Dover and her friend Joy Birch go missing, the only lead is a dilapidated RV parked on their street. Detective Loki (Jake Gyllenhaal) arrests the driver, Alex Jones (Paul Dano), but is forced to release him due to lack of physical evidence. By framing the narrative this way, Villeneuve forces the audience to confront their own latent thirst for vengeance. Initially, viewers might sympathize with Keller’s desperation.
