The manipulated video appeared to show Ms. Kashyap and Mr. Nilekani promoting a get-rich-quick trading app. The —a fact-checking initiative—analyzed the video using a suite of AI-detection tools from companies like Loccus.ai, Hive AI, and TrueMedia. The verdict was unanimous: the video was a complete fabrication. The footage was a “patchwork of unrelated clips” stitched together with an entirely AI-generated voiceover. The lip movements of both figures were out of sync, and the voices had a strange, monotonic, non-Indian accent that bore no resemblance to the way either person actually speaks.
