It was issued to coincide with the group's 24th anniversary as a recording act, serving as a more streamlined alternative to the expansive 1999 double-disc anthology, The Sounds of Science . Where the earlier anthology spanned 42 tracks, Solid Gold Hits offers a lean, single-disc collection of just 15 songs, clocking in at just under 53 minutes. Unlike its predecessor, which included a wide array of album tracks and rarities, this compilation focuses almost exclusively on the band's biggest singles and anthems.
