Mahone is brilliant but haunted. He’s secretly a drug addict (pills) and a killer—he murdered the escaped convict Oscar Shales years earlier and buried him. The Company uses this secret to force Mahone to kill the escapees one by one. He kills Tweener, and later Abruzzi, but Michael outsmarts him repeatedly. By the end, Mahone is arrested for murdering Shales (after his ex-wife Pam tips off the FBI).
